Research and Development
Fairchild Controls devotes a significant share of its' resources to R&D in order to maintain our position as a leading-edge supplier of custom thermal management solutions for the aerospace industry. R&D project selection is based on customer need and a continuous drive to make our products more efficient, more reliable, and more affordable. Some of the projects currently underway include:
- Vapor Cycle Compressor Technologies
- Development of advanced helirotor screw profiles for significantly improved coefficient of performance (COP)
- Development of a low-capacity compressor family to allow rapid delivery of flight-worthy units
- Modifications aimed at expanding the range of compressor operation to efficiently operate over speed ratios of 7:1 and allow reliable operation in extreme low temperature applications
- Modular Power Conversion Electronics
- Development of modular designs for rectifiers and inverters that offer substantial improvements in weight, volume, and efficiency over current state-of-the-ar
- Flexible/Adaptive Digital Controllers
- Development of an adaptive architecture that allows affordable customization to meet the needs of a wide range of customers
- Advanced Heat Exchange Technologies
- Development of novel materials and geometries for VCS system heat exchangers
- Development of advanced coldplates for high power electronics
- Intelligent System Diagnostics
- Integration of advanced diagnostic and prognostic algorithms into the system controller for improved maintainability and availability of airborne vapor cycle systems
To support these and other R&D initiatives, we actively seek industry and university partners to foster the innovation needed to stay at the aerospace industry's leading edge.
